Portrait of Cardinal Cahal Daly, Bronze, 1994.
" I always took my studies very seriously - worked very hard, and succeeded in getting a university entrance scholarship, and in doing an honours degree in Latin and in Greek, the ancient classics... and then I went to Maynooth, and that was boarding and it was austere and strict, but one lived in a society which had great respect for authority and for authority figures, which was a culture of scarcity, a culture in which waste was strongly discouraged, because whatever we had we worked for."
